April 16th , 2015

Attendees:

Martha Foote Abby Kerlin Lillian Sanchez
Michael Schwartzberg Aron Zimmerman Beth Ferholt
Jess Parsons (and baby Malcolm) Keri Fisher * Yagmur Campbell

*Non-board member

The board meeting commenced at 6:20.

Director’s Report:

Efforts to obtain a permanent certificate of occupancy persist.  Temporary certificates can continue to be issued while we await the processing of our boiler application, resubmitted by our expediter in April. This is the final step in obtaining a C of O.

The sensory gym nook is nearly finished and students from all three rooms are already enjoying time in this new, comforting space.

Admissions 2015-16:

We are pleased to report that the Little Stars room will be filled to capacity for the 2015-2016 school year. After a dip in the number of four-year-olds for the 2014-15 school year, it appears enrollment for this age group will increase once again as more families re-enrolled their children in the Bears / Rainbows for September 2015.

Lauren’s Maternity Leave:

Before taking maternity leave, Lauren spent three weeks training Rachel and Martha on the many facets of her job. Rachel will be taking over billing and ordering while Martha will manage accounts and payroll. Martha expressed gratitude for the extraordinary job that Lauren did to prepare the office for her departure.

Routine Health Check:

A case-worker from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene came for a scheduled visit. No violations were cited.

Finance Report:

Yagmur Campbell (mother of Rainbow, Azra) joined tonight’s meeting to introduce herself to the board as a new member of the finance committee.

Gala Updates:

The Gala was a huge success, grossing $29,875.00 for the collective.

Thanks to the gracious donation of a venue, expenses for the event were less than $3500.00.

The board continues to discuss whether the gala event is the best way to raise the critical funds needed to maintain a diverse community at the collective.

School Survey:

Final revisions to the school survey are being made. The survey will be distributed to families over email via Survey Monkey in early May. Keep your eye out for this critical opportunity for you to share your insights and experience with the board. We depend on your response.

 Job Credits:

There are several parents that are behind in earning their work credits for the 2015-2016 school year. Martha will be contacting parents in the coming weeks, providing them with their work-credit tallies so far and urging them to make a plan for earning their 18 hours before the school year ends.

The board meeting was adjourned at 8:30
