Dear Little Stars Families,

First, the big news: Reuben is now a big brother to Micah Asher, born March 11 and weighing 7 lbs, 11 oz!! Both baby Micah and Liz are doing well. Congratulations!!

The focus on music continues to be such fun in the Little Stars. Children have begun bringing in favorite CDs from home, and even Patricia has got in on the action, sharing a collection of Spanish songs performed by Yola Polastri, a Peruvian singer she loved from her childhood. Patricia has also continued singing “La Feria de Cepillin” with the children as they play their pretend trumpets, clarinets, violins, and drums, and she also brought in a pato puppet to sing “Renato El Pato” with them. And Mae has recently taught the children “Rom Pom Pom,” which they are enjoying very much. A new book the children read is “Little Pig Joins the Band” by David Hyde Costello, about a little pig who, though too small to play a band instrument, finds his place as the band’s leader. A nice theme for our Little Stars! And unrelated – but lots of fun – was reading “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” by Mo Willems with a pigeon puppet acting out the story.

Some recent art activities have included painting with water colors and small brushes, creating a group crayon picture, and beginning the sand art piece for the Collective Auction and Gala. I can tell you that this piece is looking incredibly stunning, so please be prepared to bid!!

Finally, the Little Stars have begun this week to go to the Lincoln Playground for outdoor time! This is a huge step as it indicates real growth from September. Not only are the Little Stars now strong enough to walk to and from the playground, but they can also follow the teachers’ directions about playing safely and staying within the boundaries of the Little Stars’ section of the playground. Well done, Little Stars!!

Cheers,

Martha
