Hello Collective Families!

My son Asa is an alumna of the Little Stars and Bears, now in kindergarten at the Children’s School. I am a children’s book author and illustrator. This summer I will be hosting 2 week-long art workshops for kids ages 5-9. The workshops will be held in the South Slope.

I started this program last summer. I led four morning arts sessions with my son and seven friends. It was opportunity to create art projects with kids in a small group and over an extended period of time.

In years past I have led art workshops based on my picture books as part of school and library visits, and done longer art projects with both Studio-In-A-School and the National Book Foundation.

My program is grounded on the premise that the best art-making projects for children are those that inspire them to imagine and play. Last year, we made vehicles and wrote a book together. Here is a link to book we produced: CRASH! by the Star Stone City Group. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BztHhhyUCpplY2hVNGtJTGtzNms/edit?pli=1

We will meet Monday – Friday each week from 9 am – 3 pm.

A theme will be explored during week through books, art projects and storytelling. We will make things that can be played with during our sessions and at home.

Week 1 August 12 – 16: Taking Flight – we will make kites, mobiles, and airplanes or birds.

Week 2 August 19 – 23: Building Houses – we will build houses large and small for kids, dolls, toys, or pets.

Each week’s group will consist of no more than 10 children ages 5 – 9.

We will have 2 art activities, story time, indoor free play and at least one outdoor activity (weather permitting) each day. Children should bring their own lunch and two snacks. We will have a refridgerator available to store the lunch boxes. Our sessions will take in the South Slope.

$375 per person for each weeklong session.
