According to the Collective’s by-laws, board vacancies are selected through random lottery. ANYONE who feels excited about helping the school be as strong and great as it can be, who has the time to work on various projects and help organize events, should throw their hat in.
We also have some specific roles we try to fill. At least one slot is reserved for an incoming Little Stars parent. And where possible, we seek to identify three board specialists (finance/accounting, non-profit management, and legal) who can advise the board in its management and fiduciary responsibilities. We have separate lotteries for these slots in order to be sure we fill them when we can. Right now we have a lawyer (thank you Jess Parsons!), but we have an opening for someone with non-profit management experience on the board, so if you want to throw your hat in there, let us know. And we also have an opening for a finance or accounting specialist, who could ideally take on treasurer work alone or as a team (you don’t need to be a specialist to be treasurer, though! Matt Hobby, outgoing treasurer extraordinaire, has worked with Manyi and Lauren to make the job much more straightforward.). If a volunteer does not emerge with these credentials, we will fill all four vacancies through group lottery (i.e., pull names out of a hat).
We are also looking for a CHAIR for the board for next year–Kimberly is leaving with Mateo going to kindergarten! Hopefully a second-year parent can step up to the mic.
If you are interested in participating in any of these roles in the board next year, please express your interest to Kimberly (respond to this email). If you are capable of serving as a non profit or finance specialist, please indicate in the email. We would also love someone to pitch in who is familiar with fundraising, architecture, or HR. You might get the sense at this point that we have a lot of needs 🙂
We hope the board can reflect the diversity of the PSCCC community. There is a lot that we value from our community in order for the PSCCC to successfully meet its mission, and we look forward to your participation. Current board members are available to answer questions about the nature of the commitment required, so please feel free to reach out to any one of us or stop us in the hall (reply to this email for contact info as well). Our next board meeting is scheduled for July, date to be announced soon (which also serves as our school’s annual meeting), and we plan to hold the lottery a couple of days before. So please let us know if you’re interested by July 7th. It is another great way to be an integral part of your child’s community.
Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!
