WHO WE ARE

The Park Slope Child Care Collective is a full-day preschool and childcare center. Founded by neighborhood families in 1971, the Collective provides young children ages 2-4 with the highest quality care and education in a nurturing and engaging environment while simultaneously meeting the needs of working parents.

Open from morning until evening, eleven months out of the year, we take pride in keeping our program as diverse, dynamic, and affordable as possible through cultivating an incredibly committed staff and active parent community.

When children play, they learn! Our approach begins with the children building trustful, caring relationships with the new adults in their lives so they feel secure and free to explore, discover, play, and learn. These principles inform everything from the design of our child-centered curriculum and spacious classrooms to how we make use of our indoor play gym, our outdoor side yard, and nearby Prospect Park.

We believe that all forms of diversity – racial, cultural, socioeconomic, gender, sexual orientation, family composition – enrich our community, and especially our children during these critical years of early growth. To that end, we seek a diverse applicant pool, paying close attention during the admissions process to the mix of students and teachers in each class.

The magic is in our community. As a parent cooperative, parents help maintain and enhance the school as part of a thriving community. All parents contribute at least 18 hours of work during the year, everything from snack runs to event planning. Families typically come via word-of-mouth from neighborhoods near and far to join us, developing deep and lasting friendships.
