Embrace All

PSCCC’s parent DEI committee highly values the presence of diverse individuals at the school and believes that the Collective is a space where children from different cultural backgrounds, family structures, and identities can come together in a school environment that is a nurturing, welcoming, and supportive community for all. The DEI committee strives to uphold the Collective’s values by working closely with the administration and teachers to produce events, educational workshops, and classroom resources with a DEI lens.

This is where the DEI committee’s work comes into play: it offers programming and resources to the entire community of staff, teachers, and families that highlight and celebrate the various individuals our children see in the classroom and in the world at large, particularly those whose identities are typically marginalized in U.S. culture. Doing so helps to build trust amongst diverse communities, and educates parents on reinforcing the lessons learned at school at home as well.

Recent projects the DEI committee has taken on include:

  • A classroom book audit, with suggestions for books containing more diverse characters, families, and stories implemented into all classrooms

  • A workshop series featuring nationally-recognized experts, aimed towards educating parents on speaking to their children about challenging topics such as:

    • Talking with your Children about Gender and Sexual Orientation

    • How to Talk with Your Child about Race and Racism

    • Big Talks with Little Tykes: Social Class

    • Raising Anti-Ableist Kids

  • All-school informal playdate events, focused on inclusivity and building community
